FTA Receivers

One of the nicest, most useful recent advances in entertainment is the growing availability of wireless technology. Setting up the right type of networking system can allow you to take advantage of wireless technology in order to connect all the electronics you use the most, such as home computers and gaming devices, all through the electric power lines. Once connected, Internet connections and printers can be shared, files can be transferred between devices and much more. Wi-Fi networks within the home are one of the most common ways of connecting devices, but the power and reach of these networks can be expanded by means of the power lines running in your home.

Networking kits are easy to install and allow you to use the existing power line grid in your home to prevent Wi-Fi dead spots. Ethernet bridge installation is a matter of simply plugging the bridge into an electrical outlet. This easy setup means you don’t have to run any new wires or punch and repair holes in your walls or floors. These kits can also be used to connect two network devices. For example, if your video game system is connected to a wireless router, then you take advantage of the online gaming that so many systems now offer. The bandwidth that the networking kit will allow is an important specification to pay attention to. Some networking kits offer bandwidths of up to 85 Mbps. The encryption used within the network is another important consideration since this will determine the amount of security within your network. A system that has 56-bit DES encryption is an excellent choice if you want to maximize the security on your network.

Not all power line adapters are designed to deliver the highest networking speeds in difficult power line communication environments. You should take care in choosing the adapter that is best suited to your needs. Bandwidths have to change as they handle different multimedia payloads from services like TV over IP, broadband sharing, network gaming and VOIP calls. Many power line adapters feature very low power consumption making them environmentally friendly as well as easy on the pocketbook.

Wireless Ethernet bridges can be used in homes that do not allow for power line adapters due to multiple circuits. These bridges can be used in conjunction with internet ready free-to-air receivers, or IPTV receivers. Wireless Ethernet bridges also have several modes to deal with the particular wireless network you have set up or want to set up. One mode allows the bridge to operate within in a wired LAN environment. Another mode of the bridge allows the devices to communicate with each other directly without the use of access points. Bridges can also be used to expand existing wireless networks by putting them in repeater mode.

Wireless adapters allow users to connect a number of electronic devices in a neat and effective way. Choosing the right wireless adapter depends on the devices you want to connect and the distance they are away from each other. Choosing wisely will keep the electronics in your home connected for many years to come.

Deciding to Become an Independent Contractor

Deciding to Become an Independent Contractor

Deciding to take the first step to being your own boss as an independent contractor in the construction industry can be a hard decision to make. Some things to consider while deciding whether or not to make the leap to self-employment include whether or not you are comfortable with your skill set, your ability to forego a steady paycheck if need be, and whether or not your local or geographic area can support another construction business.

Comfort with your skill set is a must to be able to launch a successful career as an independent contractor. Since contractors are called upon to do various types of jobs, a wide variety of skills will mean that you will be qualified to complete most job inquiries. Another thing to consider is whether or not to specialize in a specific construction trade, such as roofing or excavation. Specializing in several construction trades will round out your experience and skill set in such a way to allow you to compete with direct competitors more effectively. Specializing in a trade will also help hone your skills at bidding construction jobs at a profit, while at the same time offering a fair and competitive estimate to a prospective client for the materials and labor involved to complete their construction project.

Finances are another factor in your decision whether or not to strike out on your own as an independent contractor. Working for a construction company as an employee means a steady paycheck and perhaps other employment benefits. Working for yourself means that you are your own boss, but it also means that you will be the one paying all of the bills. Are you in a place in your life that you can give up a steady paycheck if business slows down? Are health insurance and other perks a necessity? Building a business can be a slow process. The financial ability to not draw a salary for a period of time while building your construction business is something to consider when you are contemplating becoming self-employed as an independent contractor.

Market research is also key. Is there enough work in your geographic area to support another construction business? Stop by local hardware stores and speak to the owners. Ask them how their construction sales are going and whether other contractors seem overly busy. Also, check with the local Chamber of Commerce and Yellow Pages to see how many similar businesses are listed and what their coverage area entails. Find your prime location and begin building your reputation in that area by making contacts with businesses that complement the construction industry, such as electricians and plumbers. Most of your business contacts should be in place prior to a decision to start up your own construction business.

These are just a few aspects to consider when deciding to launch your own business as an independent contractor. Careful research and planning, along with a heavy dose of the entrepreneurial spirit, will lead to the successful transition from employee to business owner.

Distance Learning Presents New Opportunities

Distance Learning Presents New Opportunities

For the average working American, the opportunity to continue their education after entering the workforce full time, has been limited. Depending upon the hours worked and the predictability of their work schedule they may be able to schedule in night classes at a local college, if they can even find a nearby accredited school that offers night classes in the area in which they wish to study. The advent of distance learning has helped to change that equation.

Distance learning is taking classes via the web. These internet classes may be either self-paced individual study plans or they may be interactive live chat sessions between an instructor and other students. Distance learning classes, especially those that are self-paced, offer student the ability to set their own study schedules according to the needs of their professional and family lives. They can even study during lunch hour from their desk at work, for example. Self-paced classes also allow highly motivated students to complete classes more quickly than a more highly structured program would allow.

Many of the institutions that offer distance learning are fully accredited colleges or universities, which means that the credits obtained through many of these distance learning programs can be transferred to other accredited colleges without difficulty. However, it is possible to complete one entire college degree, including advanced degrees, through online study, eliminating the need to transfer credits altogether.

Other distance learning programs are designed to provide professional certifications rather than college credits. Working professionals might take these programs to increase their skills in their current job, or to position themselves for a promotion or a raise. Human resource professionals, for example, might take the Workforce Career Coach Facilitator program offered as a distance learning opportunity by Thomas Edison State College in order to improve their skills and add additional career-relevant credentials to their resumé.

Many distance learning students who are already in the workforce, can take advantage of tuition reimbursement programs from their employers. A great many employers, recognizing that additional education increases the value of their employees, will reimburse employees for tuition and book expenses if they are studying with an accredited school. Of course, the level of reimbursement is often dependent upon the student’s grade in the course and may be subject to an annual dollar limit. Students should check the details of their own company’s tuition reimbursement policies before signing up for any classes, preapproval may be required on a class by class basis.

Whether or not tuition reimbursement is available, distance learning offers not only schedule flexibility, but the opportunity to follow programs of study that may not be offered at all within the local area, and is a great way for those already in the workforce to continue their education.

Customer Service and Nursing

Customer Service and Nursing

Customer service is a demanding job. You have to be polite and courteous and as helpful as possible when irate customers call and complain about something not working correctly or not going the way they thought it should. In most cases, if they had read the instructions or the contract they signed, they would find the answers they’re looking for. In the electronics industry, you’d be surprised by how many problems are solved by the simple phrase “First, make sure it’s plugged in.”

Most customers are polite, and it’s only a few who are looking for an argument when they call. I imagine though that there are certain jobs where customer service rises to a completely different level of difficulty. Being a nurse, for example, is probably one of the most difficult customer service jobs there is. Most of the people with whom you are dealing are in physical pain which quite naturally can make anyone a little more surly than average. Many of them are also in emotional turmoil, facing surgery, or a potentially life-threatening medical condition, kept in the hospital away from family and friends except during the all too short visiting hours.

These are people that are generally going to be less tolerant too start with. Add to that the fact that a nurse’s decisions have to be right every time. Does the patient just need more pain medication or is there a more serious complication brewing? A nurse can’t afford to get questions like that wrong. That adds stress on his side of the equation as well.

With a whole floor of patients to cover, it’s hard to stay patient with someone who needs help to turn their pillow and change the television station every five minutes, but that’s part of the job. Meanwhile, hospital administrators and doctors can seem unappreciative of the nurse’s efforts as they struggle with their own high pressure priorities.

Nursing is a difficult job. Many are motivated by their desire to help people in need and find fulfillment in the nursing career. Others, though, find that nursing is a more difficult job than they thought it would be and end up leaving the profession after a few years. That doesn’t have to mean giving up one’s nursing experience and education. Nursing can be a bridge to careers like Nurse Paralegal or Legal Nurse Consultant.

Both of these career paths build upon existing nursing expertise with a basic education in legal fundamentals. Using the combined skills, Nurse Paralegals are used by law firms to interpret and evaluate complex medical information as it pertains to a legal case. This might mean reading patient charts, evaluating prescribed treatments or even fitness to return to work based on medical test results. It’s a way to put one’s nursing skill to work, without dealing with all the day to day stresses that typically go hand in hand with the nursing profession. As if that weren’t enough incentive to consider the career change, add to that the fact that Nurse Paralegals, on average, have a much higher earning potential than those who choose to stay in the nursing field.

Walking Trousers

Walking Trousers

Choosing outdoor clothing needs the wearer to consider what conditions the outdoor gear will have to withstand. Tracksuit bottoms or simple casual trousers are fine for shorter lowland walks, though on longer walks they can irritate the wearer because they aren’t designed to be worn in the same way as specialist walking trousers are.

Synthetic walking trousers are popular because they are lightweight, loose-fitting, quick-drying and tend to have plenty of useful pockets. Some walkers wear shorts if the weather is fine, though full length walking trousers offer better protection against wildlife like brambles and nettles. The golden rule is to avoid jeans or any denim because once it gets wet it holds the water well meaning it takes forever to dry and becomes very heavy and uncomfortable to wear.

Hill-walking trousers complete with their built-in stretch panels and hard-wearing materials are great for walking, scrambling or climbing. Some walking trousers have tough panels in key areas such as on the knees to increase the trousers longevity. Ventilation details such as mesh-lined pockets in your walking trousers is important to ensure you don’t overheat while exerting yourself.

Ideally walkers shouldn’t go unprepared and taking some sturdy but lightweight waterproof over-trousers is recommended as they will also offer protection against gusts of wind if the weather changes half way up a hill!

Office Acoustics

Office acoustics can play a surprising role in the overall environment of your work place. Depending on the layout of your workspace and the materials use in its construction, you may find yourself constantly distracted and exhausted by the end of the day, or able to focus on your work efforts and achieving your goals. It is no surprise that high performing college students often go to the library or some other tranquil area to study. The lack of distractions allows one to focus for long periods resulting in a more efficient and effective use of time. A few improvements to your Office Acoustics can pay off in productivity and enable you to be more effective at work and have more energy outside of work. No matter what your office environment, whether you operate in an office or cube, or primarily attend group meetings, products exist that can help transform your workspace from a chaotic and noisy stressor to a calm and more peaceful productivity center.

Both the layout and the materials used in creating a workspace have a strong influence on the acoustic profile of an office. Hard surfaces like plaster walls and ceilings or hardwood floors reflect sound energy, resulting in louder rooms. Acoustic specialists sometimes refer to these kinds of rooms as “bright” or “lively”. This may be great for social gatherings but may not be what you are shooting for from an office work space. Soft objects or materials, like sofas and carpets, absorb sound energy, creating a quieter experience.

If you work in an office, and have the ability to control the décor, it may be worth it to think about redecorating your work space with softer materials to encourage a more acoustically tranquil experience. Instead of a total redesign, you can look into specialized acoustic products like Acoustic Foam Panels or Acoustic Insulation. Companies like Ready Acoustics create products that can be placed in almost any room to improve the space’s acoustics. Like soft materials, these products absorb sound energy, and much more efficiently than a simple area rug or couch.

These products can also be used in large meeting rooms to enhance group productivity. Have you ever been in a meeting where it was hard to hear a colleague or customer just a few seats away? The sound of the overhead projector or your neighbor’s laptop fan can interfere with business conversations resulting in frustration around the table and exhaustion after the meeting. Placing a few strategically placed Acoustic Panels can do wonders to enhance a group environment. With better meeting room acoustics, you will spend less energy trying to hear your colleagues, and have more energy designing your corporation’s success.

Ambient noise at the workplace takes a toll over time. Improving the office acoustics of a work environment lays the foundation for increased office productivity and improved individual and group efficiency. Next time you find yourself distracted by nearby conversations or struggling to hear a presenter’s words, think about upgrading the acoustic characteristics of your workplace.

Spend a Special Evening at Home

Finances are tough in the current economic environment. We are all finding that we eat out less and spend much more time at home. The new normal is eating at home and spending time getting reacquainted with our families. Don’t let it get you down if you are feeling like you are not having as much fun as before; you can make your own fun for very little expense. One very special evening at home can lead to enthusiastically spending many more evenings at home.

It can be a lot of fun to make plans for a special evening spent at home. Let your imagination run wild with everything from mood lighting to your intimate lingerie. If you have children, send them to the grandparents or arrange to trade an evening of babysitting with a friend. On the day of your planned evening at home, get your partner out of the house late in the afternoon so that you have time to set up. Or, if your partner works on a day you have off, plan for that day to allow you time to arrange for the evening. While your partner is out, transform your bedroom into a seductive, romantic getaway and yourself into a lovely vixen awaiting his return.

To set a romantic mood in the room, turn off or dim the lights. Place candles about the room to cast a warm glow. Seductive music playing in the background is a must. Set a small table with wine glasses and snacks, have the wine ready to serve at a moments notice. Fresh bed linen turned down slightly on just one corner is sure to send a strong message. Once the bedroom is ready, you need to get yourself ready for your partners return.

When it comes to lingerie, the only limit is your imagination. What does your partner like? Is he a wannabe biker or does he have a motorcycle? Why not get yourself into black leather lingerie set for $30-$70? Or is he a little more conservative or shy? If so, perhaps a prim school girl outfit for $30-$75 with jacket and tie would be less intimidating. If your guy is an outdoorsy sort, for only $15-$35 a complete camouflage lingerie outfit would be sure to get his attention. If he is one of the guys happy to see you wearing his T-shirts, why not get one for around $10 that fits your form like a glove? The classic choice is a teddie to keep his mind off work; a teddie is never a wrong choice, especially at affordable prices ranging from $15-$45. For very little expenditure you can dress yourself for an evening you will both remember for years to come.

Sometimes the best reason is no reason at all; don’t wait for a special occasion for your special evening spent at home. Your partner will be very flattered and extremely happy to spend nights at home with you in lingerie chosen just for him.

Advertise with Custom Yard Signs

Advertise with Custom Yard Signs How many times have you driven through a neighborhood or a subdivision and seen signs in the yard advertising a service that is being provided at that home or residence? If you live in suburban America, you’ve probably seen thousands of these little signs advertising everything from garage sales to homes for sale. Yard signs are a great way to advertise to the public. When you want to get the word out about your business or service, try advertising with custom yard signs.

These yard signs can be ordered with stock designs or they can be custom made and printed to your specifications. Perhaps you are a realtor and want to advertise an open house or a home for sale. Yards signs can be customized with your business name and phone number. You may have your own landscaping business or maybe a lawn mowing service. Placing a sign in the front yard or at the street so people can see the name of your business is a great way to advertise or promote your services.

Yard signs are a great way to get your business, name, phone number or services offered out to the community. These signs are made to be weather resistant and durable to stand for months at a time. The advantage to yard signs is that they are fairly inexpensive so if they do get taken down or destroyed, it is not a big loss. Lawn and yard signs are made on coroplast material which has been printed according to your customizations.

You can have your yard signs custom made or choose from the stock of lawn and yard signs that are available for your particular services. You can get stock signs for landscaping, lawn mowing, home improvement, pool services, siding installation and a variety of other services. Maybe you offer a unique service and want to upload your own logo and design? This is not a problem. You can upload your design online when you place your order. Orders are usually filled within a few days and your signs will be shipped straight to your front door.

These signs can also be used indoors. They are easy to move or relocate and are great to place at corners with a little information so that potential customers passing by can quickly jot down the information.

When you are not using your signs, they are easily stored by laying them flat so that they will not warp. They are used in conjunction with a wire stake which makes them easy to install or move. So if you have a service business such as home security or landscaping or deck building, what better way to get your name and services out to the public? Yard signs are an inexpensive way to effectively market your products and services.

So when you are working at a customer’s home or residence or even at a business, displaying your company name and number is a great way to get some extra advertising done, and they can also see how you work and the outcome of what you do. So get online and get some signs made to promote your business or service.

Atlanta House Prices

Atlanta House Prices

In recent years, Atlanta, Georgia, has been one of the hottest real estate markets in the country. People have flocked to Atlanta to take advantage of the relatively low housing prices, moderate cost of living, abundant jobs, and of course the glorious warm weather that Atlanta residents enjoy all year long.

While the nationwide housing slump has affected Atlanta just as it has almost the entire country, the many benefits of living in Atlanta have not changed. All the features that have made it one of the fastest growing regions in America remain for those looking to improve their living situation by relocating.

Indeed, some would argue that the time is better now to move to Atlanta than it was at the height of the real estate market’s bubble just a couple years ago. Housing prices have fallen as many buyers seem to have taken a step back to wait and see what’s going to happen. The median sales price of homes in Metro Atlanta, according to the National Association of Realtors, has fallen from $149,000 in the first three months of 2008 to a very affordable $115,000 in the first quarter of 2009.

In part, that’s because sales of the highest priced luxury homes in Atlanta have slowed during that time, but another part of that equation is the fact that prices have declined as demand has fallen. That means that buyers today can expect to get more house for less money than they could have at any point in the last few years. In the stock market, there is a saying: “buy low.” That means that buyers should seek to invest during periods when prices are low to maximize the return they are getting on their money. The same holds true for real estate investments. Although no one can predict with perfect accuracy when housing prices will start to rise again, experts are nearly unanimous in their opinion that real estate, purchased at today’s prices and held as a long term investment will provide a strong positive return.

That’s not to say that every property is a good investment. Buyers still need to make sure they understand the individual property. They should research the neighborhood to try to understand any trends that will affect the future value of the property, and they should always secure the services of a qualified home inspector to make sure they don’t get stuck with a money pit that is going to require substantial repairs or upgrades in order to maintain.

The selection of available properties in the Atlanta area is very good right now affording prospective buyers the luxury of taking their time to find the right property for their needs at a price that meets their budget.

Choosing an Expense Management System

Choosing an Expense Management System

There are a number of expense management systems available as both standalone systems and components of broader business suites. Some focus on specific aspects of the expense equation - for example, by providing ‘concierge’-style services that make it easier for executives to plan and adapt their business trips, while also providing an easy audit trail. Others focus on the entire expense cycle, from small ad hoc purchases to accommodation and travel expense.

In each case, functional and design capabilities will determine how big an impact the system will have on controlling and reducing expenditure. For example, some expense management systems are designed primarily from the perspective of better financial management, with less attention paid to employee or manager ease-of-use - while that serves the purposes of the accounting team, it may impact adoption levels. The key capabilities of a comprehensive expense management application are outlined below.

Accessibility, Ease-Of-Use and Maintenance

Web-based access to expense management software is a must for most organizations, since it gives employees the convenience of entering data wherever they happen to be - in the office, at home or on the road. Ideally, the system will allow employees to work offline and then synchronize with the central application when they’re ready. Support for handheld devices is a growing requirement, particularly in industries where they’re used on a regular basis by employees (e.g. by field service engineers).

While web-based design is important, the best interfaces combine the look and feel of a browser (including drop-down menus) with the form-based precision of an Excel spreadsheet. Data entry doesn’t require radical screen-design: it needs a practical framework to enter words and numbers. Data accuracy at the initial input stage is key both to process effectiveness and the quality of analysis, so it’s often worth carrying out usability tests among employees prior to selecting a system.

Ease-of-use is also determined by the breadth and depth of functionality. Employees should be able to carry out basic tasks easily, such as mileage calculator, and access their past expense history. Many systems also allow employees to submit scanned receipts to attach to initial claims.

From a maintenance perspective, the cost of ownership may be reduced where the system is run ‘On-Demand’ by a third-party service provider. It will be quicker to deploy initially, since software does not need to be installed on employees’ or managers’ machines, and ongoing technical maintenance will be handled centrally by the service provider.
